NFB / Tragic story with happy ending

Synopsis

What if you were a little different?

Having a bird's heart that beats loud and fast would make you feel different. If you're a little girl with just such a heart that is troubling your fellow villagers, it may seem best to just forget who you are and try to fit in. But it would be so good to take wing and soar away. What if this were actually the best way to win a place in the hearts of others?

This whimsically lyrical film has the timeless charm of an old fable - one whose subject is difference and self-affirmation. Through images evoking the rich texture of a woodblock print, Regina Pessoa has created a world of contrasts, complemented by a lively soundtrack with a rhythmic beat. Bold lines and distorted perspectives draw the viewer out of the girl's mundane little world, tingeing it with magic and mystery. Sensitive to the simple beauty of anonymous lives, the filmmaker offers an ode to freedom in which poetry transcends the banality of the everyday.
