Janet Perlman
Born in Montreal, Janet Perlman has had an impressive career in animation, directing shorts, commercials and educational productions. Along with her independent work, her films produced by the NFB have received international acclaim, including an Oscar® nomination for The Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin, an American Film festival Blue Ribbon for Why Me?, and a Pulcinella for best television film for Penguins Behind Bars. Her films from the ShowPeace series, Dinner for Two and Bully Dance, received major awards in Chicago, Montreal and Berlin. Her independent work, My Favorite Things That I Love, won the coveted "Best Bad Taste" award at The Ottawa International Animation Festival. Her most recent film, Invasion of the Space Lobsters, was produced by the NFB.
Janet has taught animation at Harvard and at the Rhode Island School of Design and has written and illustrated four books: Penguins Behind Bars, Cinderella Penguin, The Emperor Penguin's New Clothes and The Penguin and the Pea. Her next book, The Delicious Bug, based on the ShowPeace film Dinner for Two, will be published in fall, 2008.
Her Montreal-based company, Hulascope Studio, produces films for television.
