Our World

NUXALK PROJECTS

As a follow-up to the animation workshop in March 2006, the Nuxalk Nation and the National Film Board of Canada joined forces again in February 2007 to create more animations, this time with digital storytelling techniques.

Part of the intention behind this particular workshop is to give youth new skills in storytelling through media. The other aspect was to integrate use of the Nuxalk language.

Today we see with many First Nations language diminishing in usage to where only a few older people speak it. Many communities have concerns and are finding ways to re-introduce First Language to children and youth, with various levels of success. The difficulties in doing this arise from a lack of everyday usage in the face of a world immersed in English.

Our World is not about teaching language, but about putting young people in the world of the Language where they will be creating a new relevance for First Language.
