Nicolas Brault was born in 1975. During his BA studies in graphic design at Université du Québec à Montréal, he made two short films drawn directly on a graphics tablet: L’œil(1999) et Vermino(2000).
He won the NFB Cinéaste recherché(e) contest in 2000, allowing him to make Antagonia, which screened at the prestigious Festival de Clermont-Ferrand and won an award at Portugal’s CINANIMA. During his expedition on Sedna IV he explored Inuit culture while directing l'Îlot(2003).Hungu (2008) explores the African traditions that led to the creation of the berimbau, a Brazilian musical instrument. Brault has an ethnologist’s fascination with the world and he tries to understand the cultural diversity around him.
