Pierre Plouffe trained in graphic arts and digital imaging at Sheridan College, Université Laval and Cégep de Sainte-Foy. He has worked at the NFB since 1996, using various software for digital image manipulation, picture composition, editing and animation.

As computer graphics technician, specialist in digital imaging and creator of special effects, he has worked on over 50 films, many winning international awards. These include Oscar® nominee Madame Tutli-Putli by Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, Sleeping Betty by Claude Cloutier, Dehors novembre and The Brainwashers by Patrick Bouchard, Thieves of Innocence by Paul Arcand, and Histoire de famille by Michel Poulette.

Plouffe was also in charge of the digital remastering of Norman McLaren - The Master's Edition, a 7-DVD box set of the complete works of Norman McLaren, which garnered the Focal International Award for the quality of its restoration.
