Peter Wintonick

Peter Wintonick was among the founding members, alongside Mark Achbar and Francis Miquet, of Necessary Illusions, the production company behind Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992), one of the most commercially successful documentaries in Canadian history. He brings an activist impulse and broad interest in politics and culture to work like Seeing is Believing: Handicams, Human Rights and the News and Cinéma Vérité: Defining the Moment, a playful exercise in film history. Enthusiastic about new media and its potential to transform film culture, he claims: “I have seen with my own eyes how a once dormant desert can bloom into a garden of digital sunshine.” He is a prominent cultural critic and advocate for independent production.
