Nettie Wild

A persevering spirit of activism characterizes Nettie Wild’s work. She came to documentaries from a background in community theatre, making a mark with A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution and A Place Called Chiapas, two trenchant point-of-view films on grassroots political movements. “I’m really drawn to stories where the stakes are high, really high,” says Wild. “It always seems to lead me to people who are at a point... where they’re trying to gain control over their lives.” FIX: The Story of an Addicted City brought her back to her native Vancouver, where she later collaborated with public health agencies to produce Bevel Up: Drugs, Users and Outreach Nursing, an innovative audiovisual educational kit for health professionals. A feature film on the city’s illicit drug economy is among new projects she is working on.
